About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Assistant acts as a handyperson at our maintenance facilities in WA providing support and assistance to the ASC Facilities Team in planned and unplanned maintenance tasks and inspections on all facility assets across ASC-W.

This position supports ASC-W maintenance activities to maintain grounds, landscaping, building architecture, building services, plant, equipment and infrastructure in support of ASC’s business commitments.

Responsibilities

The Facilities Maintenance Assistant will be working in a flexible small team environment across multiple sites as required (Henderson, Quill Way, Bibra Lake and HMAS Stirling), providing:

  • Support to assist the team in addressing Corrective Maintenance tasks for buildings, plant, grounds, workshops, office areas, kitchens and utilities.
  • Conduct Planned Maintenance tasks for buildings, plant, grounds, workshops, office areas, kitchens and utilities.
  • Support the day to day execution of facilities contractor maintenance tasks, including escorting contractors. Ensuring contractors’ adherence to ASC Safety and Security requirements, SWMS stipulations, and the delivery of their contracted scope of work.
  • Ability to work unsupervised with hand and power tools.

About you 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify maintenance issues within reasonable timeframes.
  • Knowledge and experience in general building and maintenance techniques and procedures to be confident in the application of safe and technically compliant repairs within qualified and licensed limits.
  • Attention to detail is crucial to ensure maintenance is carried out accurately and in compliance with safety regulations.
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively to handle multiple maintenance requests simultaneously and complete tasks within given deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with staff, contractors and external parties.
  • Customer service mindset with friendly demeanour, adaptable and flexible to switch tasks when necessary.

Essential qualifications

  • Valid driver’s licence
  • White card – Safety in construction induction
  • Forklift and EWP preferred but training can be provided
  • Working at Heights and Confined Space training preferred but can be provided

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
