Location Profile

Established in 1988, the school is situated in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

 The school offers a broad curriculum for its 730+ students. Whole-school approaches to health and wellbeing, curriculum development and assessment are embedded across the school.  The Victorian Curriculum areas of Science, Humanities, Health, Civics and Citizenship, Design, Creativity and Technology are taught through an integrated Units of Inquiry with a focus on the explicit teaching of Literacy and Numeracy skills and concepts. Social-emotional skills and concepts are developed via Positive Education and Restorative Practices.

The community views education as a shared responsibility. The co-operative partnership between the school and home is a highly valued feature of the school.

Our specialist programs of Physical Education, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Indonesian, Library and Science provide students high-quality programs as well as many enrichment activities.

Our Learning Enhancement team coordinates our literacy support program.

Our Student Wellbeing team supports student well-being and families. They provide individual, small group support as well as support and advice to parents.

The school prioritises the development of a global perspective and intercultural understandings. The school respects our indigenous heritage. School art adorns the school grounds. Typically, these have an indigenous or cultural focus.

Science and digital technology is a feature of the school. The STEAM facility is well resourced with 20+ PC's, laboratory equipment and is home to our lizard, turtle and stick insects. Each classroom equipped with Apple TVs, MacMinis and Chromebooks and iPads.

Both the physical environment and the learning programs are organised to facilitate four collaborative learning communities. In 2024 the school has six Prep classes, ten Junior classes (5 x Year One and 5 x Year Two), eight Middle classes (4 x Year Three and 4 x Four) and eight Senior (Year Five and Six) classes. The school is equipped with: 

  • thirty-two dedicated classrooms
  • a visual arts room
  • a computer laboratory
  • a science laboratory
  • a library
  • a Performing Arts Centre
  • a dedicated language room (Indonesian)
  • a dedicated Out of School Hours facility 
  • two multi-purpose rooms
  • a competition size sports stadium
  • four outdoor sports courts (two of which are covered in synthetic grass, one of which is covered by a waterproof shade shelter)
  • a competition size cricket/football oval
  • a junior sized soccer pitch
  • two junior sized football ovals
  • five playgrounds that are dedicated to the learning levels of the school
  • a farm complete with vegetable gardens, chickens and a frog bog 
  • a Japanese garden.

Selection Criteria

SC1     Demonstrated capacity to carry out general school building and grounds maintenance independently and without direct supervision.

SC2     Demonstrated capacity to use initiative to investigate, prioritise, take appropriate action, and attend to maintenance and grounds management and/or projects.

SC3     Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents/carers, tradespeople, and other community members.

SC4     Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and a commitment to OHS compliance in the school.

SC5     Demonstrate commitment to professional learning and growth for self and others.    

Role

Attendance, with accrual of Time in Lieu or additional pay, may be required throughout the term holidays and out of hours.

Role will ensure the school grounds, buildings and equipment are well maintained, well presented, physically secure, compliant and safe for the school community.

Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.

Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy.  Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3.  Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility.  Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases.  Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.

Responsibilities
  • Inspecting and attending to immediate school buildings and grounds needs daily.
  • Ensuring the school¿s buildings and grounds are well maintained and presented including providing regular feedback to the Business Manager to ensure standards are maintained and opportunities for improvement are identified. 
  • Undertaking or delegating to other school facilities staff minor projects and works including but not limited to plumbing, welding, painting, plaster patching, carpentry, mowing, gardening, landscaping, repairs (to doors, locks, windows, furniture, fixtures and fittings), and furniture removal. 
  • Undertaking small projects and coordinating contractors on larger projects; overseeing the work and completion.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of all school maintenance/grounds equipment are attended to.
  • Maintaining a healthy and safe school environment that complies with OHS and Department standards.
    • Being an active member of the OHS Working Group.
    • Undertaking routine inspections consistent with the OHS calendar including reporting, auditing, and project management of ongoing, quarterly and annual OHS requirements.
    • Overseeing Asbestos Management
    • Completing or acquiring JSAs, SWMS and risk assessments for works as required.
    • Coordinating and conducting contractor inductions, ensuring that all contractors are fully compliant before attendance onsite.
    • Managing all repairs, maintenance, and OHS requests from staff, students, and stakeholders, undertaking works using best practice techniques and procedures while maintaining a safe workplace for students and staff in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004.
  • Raising purchase orders and requisitions through Compass financial systems and submitting invoices to the administration department.
  • Delivering reports and updates to staff regarding Building and Grounds via Staff Briefing
  • Being familiar or prepared to learn and use technology relevant to the role such as email, spreadsheets, Compass, OHS Management, and Emergency Management systems. 
  • Other duties outside the scope listed from time to time, as directed by the Business Manager or Principal Team
