Wallumatta Legal is a low fee, not-for-profit family law firm. It is a social justice project which aims to offer affordable legal advice and representation for low to middle income Australians.
Founded in NSW in 2021, our partnership with the University of Melbourne and a grant from the Victorian Legal Services Board, has now enabled Wallumatta Legal to expand to provide affordable access to family law services across Victoria.
ABOUT THE ROLEIf you have at least three years’ experience in family law, have a passion for providing high quality and practical legal advice, and share our belief that everyone deserves access to justice - regardless of their financial position, background, or any other factor - then Wallumatta Legal might be the place for you.
In this role you will report directly to, and work alongside, the Senior Solicitor – Vic and will be part of our broader family law team. You will also work with Juris Doctor students from Melbourne Law School.
You will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team in an innovative legal practice where the focus is on client outcomes, producing work of the highest standard, and an excellent team culture.
The role is based at Melbourne Law School, and we offer flexible work arrangements and operate on a hybrid model.
You will get to demonstrate your family law skills and experience by:
- providing advice and representation to clients in parenting and property matters
- drafting legal documents including correspondence and court documents
- appearing at the FCFCOA
- appearing at mediation and settlement conferences

ABOUT YOUTo be considered for this role you will need to have:
- a minimum of three years post admission experience in family law
- experience in providing advice and representing clients across a broad range of family law issues (including property and parenting matters)
- experience in attending court and briefing counsel
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- well-developed organisation and time management skills
- strong attention to detail
- a desire to broaden your network
- the ability to work both within a team and autonomously; and
- the desire to make a positive impact.
