Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.
First incorporated in 1979, the organisation was a finalist in the 2016 Reconciliation Australia, Indigenous Governance Awards and is one of the 10 largest Aboriginal Corporations in Australia.

The Opportunity

The Tangentyere Council Family Support Services provides support for the whole family with a focus on the best interests and outcomes for children. The program provides intensive case management and tailored support to all families in Alice Springs with children aged 0-18. We work according to the needs of each individual family, using an approach that is strengths based, child centred, and family focussed. The service aims to support families to create and foster safe and nurturing environments for children, strengthen parenting capacity and increase resilience, and promote positive outcomes for children and families. The Support worker will work with the caseworkers to provide assertive outreach and support for families. The Support worker will work beside the case workers to support parents and families to develop parenting skills, develop reparative relationships with their children and increase their capacity to address safety concerns and keep children and young people safe from harm.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills who is committed to working with vulnerable families and children. Additionally, they will engage with stakeholders and community members to promote the program, ensuring it is culturally safe and accepted by individuals, families, and communities across the Alice Springs region.
Responsibilities
- Promote child -centered support for parents to help strengthen their relationship with their children.
- Provide outreach support to families engaged in the Family Support Services
- Support mums and dads to engage with internal and external Support Services.
- Work with the Family Support Services to make sure children and young people are safe.
- Documentation, record keeping and reporting as required.
- Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
- Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.
- Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.
- Other reasonable duties as required.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
Required
The successful candidate will be an experienced practitioner able to demonstrate the following.
- A strong commitment to supporting mums and dads and their children.
- An ability to develop relationships with parents and their children.
- A commitment to supporting and working in a team.
- An understanding of the issues that families experience.
- Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.
Desired
- An understanding of Aboriginal culture as well as a broad range of contemporary issues affecting Central Australian Aboriginal people.
- Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and willingness to attain.
