Dunkeld Pastoral Co Pty Ltd is a family-owned business with its principal base at Dunkeld in the Southern Grampians region of Victoria. The company manages a diverse range of businesses across the agricultural, land management, and tourism sectors.
In Dunkeld, this consists of a large farming business integrating high-productivity grazing enterprises with a dedicated conservation and land management program and a horticultural team managing gardens, landscaping, orchards, and vegetable production. In addition, the company owns the renowned Royal Mail Hotel, also located in Dunkeld.
ABOUT THE PROPERTY
This position will be based on our 6,000 acre farm management area known as Blackwood and will assist with the day-to-day operations and running of:
- A self-replacing cattle operation
- A self-replacing composite maternal ewe operation where the joining of ewe lambs is required
- Some steer or lamb trading may be part of the operational mix depending on season
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Farm Hand, your role is to contribute to the success of our farms with your colleagues. With more than 31,000 acres of highly productive land under management, you will have the opportunity to work across different enterprises.
Reporting to the Blackwood Farm Manager and joining a small, experienced team, you will:
- Ensure the highest standards of animal health and welfare
- Maintain accurate stock, chemical, and feeding records
- Operate and maintain plant and equipment and contribute to the development of the farm properties
- Adhere to company policies and safe work procedures
- Ensure OHS policies and procedures are strictly followed
- Demonstrate a commitment to continued learning, actively participating in farm pasture walks, training days and workshops
ABOUT YOU
You will be a resilient, energetic, and self-motivated individual.
Ideally, you will have:
- At least two years of experience working in a livestock-based farm position
- A willingness to acquire and train working dogs (if not owned already) is essential
- Ability to operate tractors, quadbikes and motorbikes
- Good fencing ability
- Initiative to complete operational tasks that contribute to the team
- Ability to support and work towards safe work procedures
- Willingness to learn new systems of work
- Demonstrated ability to follow directions from management and peers and work as a valuable team member
- Knowledge of AgriWebb farm management software is advantageous but can be learned on the job
