About the role
The Financial Accountant plays an important role in the business and supports the delivery of operational business objectives for Molycop Australia through ensuring:
- The effective accounting and safeguarding of the entities leases, fixed assets and capital projects;
- Participation in end of month processes to facilitate the timely and accurate provision of financial information to stakeholders; and
- supporting the Finance Manager and broader finance team to achieve objectives.
Key responsibilties include:
- Expense accounting covering payroll, prepayments, credit cards, intercompany recharges and general accruals.
- Reconciliation and processing of trade prepayments and assisting with the monthly review of Goods Received Not Invoiced (GRNI) for month end reporting.
- Ensuring the accurate treatment, processing, and reconciliation of lease agreements under Australian Accounting Standards.
- Partnering with functional managers to periodically review overheads and explain variances to budget whilst accurately forecasting future expenditure.
- Ensuring for the accurate preparation and timely lodgement of indirect tax returns (FBT, Payroll Tax, GST).
- Assisting operational staff in managing capital projects through ensuring spend within authorised budgets, regular financial review, timely closure and capitalisation.
- Managing the Fixed Asset Register including additions, disposals and periodic physical verifications.
- Participating in period end close procedures for areas of responsibility and maintaining related balance sheet reconciliations; and
- Assisting in preparation of information for internal and external audit requirements as required.
- Manage and oversee inventory accounting, including tracking, valuation, and reconciliation of inventory balances to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial reporting standards
- Manage and oversee revenue recognition adjustments on a monthly basis, ensuring compliance with IFRS
About you
We’re looking for a proactive and highly motivated team player with the following skills and experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting
- CA / CPA qualified
- 5+ years’ relevant accounting experience
- Specialist knowledge covering a range of indirect taxes supported by on the job experience across a range of industries
- Problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Ability to communicate with people at various levels within an organisation.
- The ability to solve complex problems and diligence to make informed and supported decisions.
- Attention to detail , highly organised and deadline driven.
- Advanced Excel skills.
Desirable also is:
- Knowledge of USGAAP; and
- Experience using Dynamics 365, Power BI, Onestream.

In Newcastle our Railway and Forge business is the only one of its kind in Australia and produces high performance rail wheels, axles and wheel sets for both domestic and international markets. These wheels deliver improved performance in heavy haul applications. We also manufacture grinding media which is used for mineral processing ball milling operations globally.
