About the role
Mater is currently seeking an experienced Financial Accounting Supervisor – Capital and Projects to join our Group Finance team on a permanent full-time basis. This position is based in our purpose-built offices in Newstead.
This is an excellent opportunity to add value to Mater by providing expert financial advice and guidance to the Mater Group, assessing new or amended financial reporting and accounting standard requirements and leading the external audit process for the Group including preparation of consolidated financial statements.
Salary range: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation plus generous salary packaging available
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Manager Financial Accounting, the Financial Accounting Supervisor - Capital and Projects is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of the full financial requirements for the Mater Group's capital portfolio including asset acquisitions, disposals, transfers, revaluations, stocktake, impairment, Balance Sheet and P&L reconciliations review, management reporting and variance analysis; all whilst adhering to a compliance framework aligned with the Australian Accounting Standards, Mater policy and procedures, internal controls and audit requirements.
This role will provide leadership, direction and coaching to ensure staff (including a team of direct reports) have the skills and knowledge to effectively achieve business objectives and meet regulatory deliverables.
Some of your key duties will include (but not limited to):
- Accountable for the delivery of a financial shared services capital and project accounting function across all Mater entities including provision of any external entity support arrangements
- Provide leadership, direction and coaching to ensure staff have the skills and knowledge to effectively achieve business objectives and meet deliverables
- Manage all end of month close activities in relation to capital and projects including delivery of management reports and statutory reporting
- Responsible for monthly and quarterly Balance Sheet and P&L general ledger reconciliations completion, review and sign off
- Contribute to the completion of the financial statements with respect to capital and project related disclosures
- Manage a rolling asset stocktake program across property, plant and equipment and intangible assets
- Manage a rolling asset valuation program working closely with the external valuer and including provision of indicies in years where no comprehensive valuation is conducted
- Manage the annual review of asset useful lives, asset residual values and asset impairment
- Analyse the treatment of financial transactions to ensure compliance with the Australian Accounting Standards, internal controls, Mater policy and procedures and audit requirements
- Develop a community of practice for capital and project activities across all Mater entities
- Perform financial analysis and provide accounting advice where required
About you
To be successful, you will require:
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting/Commerce/Business
- Professional Accounting Qualification (CA/CPA)
- Demonstrated experience leading a team
- Demonstrated experience within large/complex organisation/sector
- Extensive experience advising on Financial Accounting and compliance standards in a complex business environment
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management, prioritisation, and organisational skills
- Demonstrated capacity to consistently deliver a high level of customer service and to develop and maintain ongoing relationships with other departments
Desirable
- Prior working experience within Health
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365
