Varcon is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to embark on an exciting journey as they enter a scale-up phase of the business, creating the perfect opportunity for a skilled finance professional to join their dynamic team. In this role, you'll take charge of day-to-day activities, in the construction company and spearhead process improvement initiatives, all while showcasing your expertise in construction accounting. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will play a pivotal role in delivering financial services to the Group’s Business Managers. As the Financial Controller of Varcon construction company, you'll be the driving force behind that finance function, leading statutory reporting, year-end processes, and ensuring audit compliance with precision and timeliness. Your dedication will be evident in overseeing month-end and monthly management processes, supervising cash-flow management, and providing insightful guidance on financial queries to operational partners. Your commitment to excellence extends to business compliance, where you'll verify that standards are met. With a focus on future strategy, you'll set performance goals and ensure the team receives the necessary training. As part of this role, you will be a key player in establishing new processes and reporting practices, contributing significantly to the financial success of this thriving construction company.
Key Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience of at least 5-10 years in business and financial operations, preferably within a medium to large organization in the construction or service industry.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, coupled with strong communication abilities.
- Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office suite, along with experience in financial modeling.

Main duties/responsibilities:
- Preparation of monthly profit and loss, WIP reconciliation, stage of completion summaries, and detailed variance commentary for review.
- Facilitation of the annual financial planning and forecasting processes to ensure the development of high-quality business plans related to revenue, costs, and capital expenditures.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders across various business units to achieve this objective.
- Maintain an accurate cashflow forecast and report to stakeholders weekly.
- Regular review, and improvement of business processes, enhance the optimisation of financial models.
- Take ownership of the month-end process, ensuring the completion of tasks and the closure of financial activities, including processing of journals.
- Assist in End of Financial Year (EOFY) audits and Quarterly reporting, as well as preparation of statutory reporting deliverables.
- Mentoring/coaching the direct report and supporting others in technical queries.
- Serve as a key backup ERP administrator.
