About your Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Financial Controller - PNG to join our high performing Hastings Deering PNG team. This is a residential role to be based in Port Moresby.
Reporting to the Manager - PNG and Solomon Islands, your key responsibilities will include:
- Reporting: Ensure timely completion of financial reports in alignment with corporate deadlines.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead annual budget preparation process for PNG/SI, collating inputs, entering data, preparing presentation information to meet Corporate deadlines.
- Payroll: Manage the preparation of fortnightly payroll for the national workforce and monthly payroll for expatriate and senior national staff.
- Taxation: Collaborate with the Brisbane-based Tax team on all taxation matters for PNG/SI, covering GST, Group tax, Company Income Tax, withholding taxes, and SI Goods & Sales Taxes.
- Accounts Payable: Oversee all aspects of accounts payable, including invoice authorisation, payment processing (including foreign currency invoices) and vendor reconciliations.
- Accounts Receivable: Work collaboratively with the Brisbane-based Credit team to ensure timely debt collection, recovery of overdue accounts, and accurate reporting to management.
- Procurement: Ensure procurement activities adhere to corporate requirements.
- Treasury: Manage all treasury functions for PNG/SI, including fund allocation, balance reporting, and foreign currency transactions.
- Corporate Governance: Assist local management in ensuring appropriate governance and adherence to Corporate requirements in all respects - eg. payments, stocktakes, asset acquisition and disposal
- Capital Acquisitions: Review and endorse all capital requests, including provision of relevant documentation, and management reporting.
- Interaction with Auditors: Central point of contact regarding PNG/SI for all financial audits (internal & external), providing and collating responses, responding to queries
About You
You will bring the following skills and experience to the role:
- Minimum five years leadership experience managing financial and commercial functions within a large organisation
- Tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, with major in accounting.
- CA or CPA qualifications
- Prior experience using an ERP finance system
- Proficiency with Office suite of products - Excel, Word, Powerpoint
- Mining, heavy engineering or manufacturing background would be considered desirable
