MACS and Diversitat have been serving the Geelong community for more than 40 years with a focus on our multicultural communities. As the new entity, Cultura operates across various sites delivering a range of services including residential aged care, home care and aged support services, settlement, training and education, financial counselling and disability support. We also operate a range of social enterprises including The Pulse community radio and various community events including the popular Pako Festa.
Cultura also offers an extremely generous salary packaging benefit, giving staff the opportunity to salary package up to $18,550 per annum of their pre-tax yearly income.
The Role:
The Financial Counsellor provides service and activities to clients including: information, options, support and advocacy for individuals, families and groups of consumers and assists clients to identify, develop and implement strategies for redressing credit, debt and other financial issues.
This position will be contracted on a permanent part-time basis, working 22.5 hours per week.
About You:
- Case Management including detailed analysis of client’s financial position including an initial assessment of the client’s financial situation;
- Determine the vulnerability/disadvantages of the client’s financial position and offer a service appropriate to assist in resolution;
- Refer clients where appropriate to other resources and welfare groups;
- Provide advocacy on behalf of the client when required;
- Participate in educating relevant stakeholders on financial counselling service provision and how to make referrals;
- Facilitate appropriate change to commercial practices, current and proposed debt legislation and Government policy where the opportunities arise;
- Record client data in compliance with required standards and contribute to funder reporting requirements;
- Adhere to the relevant codes of practice including professional conduct and standards of practice as developed and published by FC, Victoria, the FCA and Cultura;
- Meet and maintain the membership requirements of FC Victoria;
- Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling) or be willing to undertake this. Enrolment must occur within the first 3 months;
- Experience in Emergency Relief (desirable);
- Current membership with FC, Victoria (or willingness to obtain);
- Current Driver’s License.

Employment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a Police Record Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check, Victorian Employee Working with Children’s Check. Cultura will pay for the costs associated with these Check’s.
