Carers Queensland works closely with First Nations individuals and communities across Queensland to make a positive difference in the lives of First Nations people with disability, their families and communities.

About the Role

The First Nations Local Area Coordinator - Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (Identified) is pivotal in connecting First Nations peoples to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and/or relevant First Nations supports in the community.

This role will be based in: Lutwyche, working across the north of Brisbane. The office location is above Market Central Shopping Center - close to public transport. The position will lead project work to ensure First Nations people with disability participate in, and benefit from the social and community services and activities of interest to them within their community.

  • You have high level skills in planning, problem solving and engaging with individuals, stakeholders and communities to achieve outcomes.
  • You have experience in delivering program outcomes through working closely with First Nations Communities.
  • You work well as part of a team who are committed to making a positive difference to the community and in the lives of people with disability.

          Qualifications and experience:

          MANDATORY: You must be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person + must have a current, or ability to obtain a, Working with Children Check (Blue Card) + NDIS Worker Screen and you must hold a current Australian Drivers Licence.

          DESIRABLE
          • Professional and or further qualifications in Community development/ Community Engagement, Human Services, Social Sciences, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, Speech and Language Pathology and disability - relevant work experience will be considered.
          • A proven knowledge and understanding of the diversity of Indigenous Australia and demonstrated experience working with First Nations peoples in a culturally sensitive and responsive way.
          • High level of oral and written communication skills, demonstrated report writing and presentation skills and the use of office programs including outlook, work, excel, PowerPoint etc.
          • Ability to prepare and facilitate workshops.
          • Ability to travel to various service areas within the region with the flexibility to stay overnight during work-related trips.
          • You work well as part of a team who are committed to making a positive difference to the community and in the lives of people with disability.
