Location: Cairns servicing Cape York communities
Status: Full Time Fixed Term (until 30 September 2025)
Salary: $94,142 - $104,229 p.a. + 11% superannuation contribution
Genuine occupational requirement (the incumbent must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander to be able to effectively carry out the requirements of the position)

About Us
Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.
About the Opportunity
The First Nations Health Worker Mentor role is to ensure that staff undertaking the Aboriginal Health Worker and/or Aboriginal Health Practitioner qualification, and required supervised clinical placements are culturally safe, supported and work ready.
Pre-employment screening for vaccination against Vaccine Preventable Diseases will be conducted for the successful applicant.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A Cert IV or Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice)
- A Cert IV or Diploma of Training and Assessment
- Currently or recently practicing Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner with three (3) years industry experience
- Demonstrated experience delivering training and support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners
- RTO experience in training and an understanding of the VET system (desirable, however, not essential)
- Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York
- Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs
- Current Blue Card positive notice or exemption, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence
