The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is an intergovernmental organisation working to strengthen national capacity and regional solidarity so Pacific nations can manage, control, and develop their tuna fisheries now and in the future.

Based in Honiara, Solomon Islands, our agency comprises 17 member nations, including Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

Since 1979, we have facilitated regional cooperation so that all Pacific countries benefit from the sustainable use of tuna – worth over USD $3 billion a year and important for many people's livelihoods in the Pacific.

We are now looking for a Fisheries Management Advisorto join our team on a full-time basis. You will work within the Fisheries Management Division, providing expert advice and support to FFA member countries to help develop and implement effective tuna Fisheries Management strategies. 

Reporting to the Director of Fisheries Management, you'll be a key player in promoting sustainable development across the Pacific Region.

Main Responsibilities:

• Advise on national, subregional, and regional Fisheries Management to support sustainable development
• Facilitate the development and reform of Fisheries Management plans and policies
• Engage with regional and international Fisheries Management organisations to advocate for FFA members
• Conduct research, provide technical advice, and support training in Fisheries Management

We seek a dynamic individual with a University Degree in Fisheries Management, Natural Resource Management, Fisheries Science, or a related field and at least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in the Pacific region. You should have a proven track record in Fisheries Management, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of Harvest Strategies as it relates to tuna fisheries.

You will also join with:

• Demonstrated experience in researching, preparing and presenting briefs to ministers, national fisheries agencies and international forums
• Deep understanding of the implications of modelling and stock assessment
• Strong analytical skills, with experience in policy analysis, strategy development, and project management
• Ability and willingness to travel to all of the 17 member nations
• Knowledge of the Pacific Islands region, its people and their culture

For your work and effort as our Fisheries Management Advisor, you will receive a competitive salary package starting at US$82,532 (tax-free, for citizens of most countries), negotiable to earn more based on your skills and experience.
