Cobourg Fishing Safaris are currently looking for an experienced and passionate Fishing Guide to join the team at Cobourg Coastal Camp, NT. The role is seasonal and the major fishing months are April, May, Sep, Oct and November.
Heralded as one of the best fishing destinations in Australia, the remote Cobourg Peninsula is only an hour’s flight from Darwin. Cobourg Fishing Safaris offer accommodated (fly in/fly out), small group fishing charters from Cobourg Coastal Camp.
As an employee of Cobourg Fishing Safaris you are regarded as the face of the company. Your knowledge of the local fishing and environment you work in, your attention to safety and ability to make sure everyone in your group has a fantastic holiday is paramount to our company’s continued success .
In a nutshell, your job is to lead fishing tours and marine park tours (maximum 4 per boat) on the Cobourg Peninsula from our base known as Cobourg Coastal Camp. Accommodation and meals are provided at camp as part of the role.
Fishing packages are generally 3-6days in length and the fishing hours each day highly depend on customer wants/needs.
On days that are not essentially ‘guided fishing working days’ you may be required to provide maintenance to your fishing vessel, transfer guests to the airstrip, help out with duties at camp etc. This is all part of living and operating in a remote camp where everyone chips in where needed. On request, there are also opportunities to fly back to Darwin between fishing tours.
General duties include but are not limited to:
- Skippering your designated vessel (6.8 rear centre console plate boat)
- Preparing fishing rigs and equipment for departure
- Cleaning, maintaining, fuelling up vessel for departures
- Fishing; barra fishing, flats fishing, trawling, jigging, bait and surface fishing
- Training, educating and demonstrating fishing techniques for specific environments and fish
- Providing guests with the best opportunity possible to catch fish such as barramundi, pelagic and reef fish.
- Catching, releasing and preparing fish humanly
- Packing and storing fish appropriately onboard
- Providing commentary on the wildlife, history, culture and environments of the Cobourg Peninsula
- Mud crabbing, gathering oysters, cockles etc
- Enjoying a beer and a yarn with the crew at the end of the day :)
