The Program Manager supports the development of the ARTRAGE Managed Venue and Independent Program for the annual FRINGE WORLD Festival. They are responsible for overseeing the experience and delivery for FRINGE WORLD Festival participants. The major working relationships are with artists, venues, industry and ARTRAGE Marketing, Ticketing and Finance teams.
The Program Manager will have a strong focus on developing the services available to artists and venues that support their participation and ability to deliver a Fringe program. The Program Manager is responsible for ensuring all department duties are documented, delegated and completed.
The Program Manager is the direct line manager to the FRINGE WORLD Program Coordinators and is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, training, supervision and ensuring the team members are provided with ongoing guidance and support.
Role DutiesProgram Development & Delivery
- Support the development of the FRINGE WORLD Festival Independent & ARTRAGE Managed Venue Program.
- Oversee the FRINGE WORLD Awards Program development and delivery.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with venues, artists, producers, presenters and the wider arts industry sector.
- Oversee the festival arts industry and delegate program.
- Oversee participant communications and resources.
- Oversee the development of participant services including providing networking opportunities for participants.
- Develop the services available to artists and venues that encourage and support their participation and ability to deliver a Fringe program.
- Oversee, the feedback and communication processes for FRINGE WORLD participants to ARTRAGE including the development of surveys, and year-round engagement.
- Provide administrative support to all artists and venues maintaining a high level of service.
- Oversee the delivery of the programming department's Access & Inclusion Plan responsibilities. Identify new areas where the Festival can progress in its Access & Inclusion especially for FRINGE WORLD participants.
- Work with the Head of Programming & Ticketing to update the Event, Venue, and ARTRAGE
- Managed Venue agreements and all participation policies.
Program Promotion
- Work with the Marketing Manager to create advertising opportunities for FRINGE WORLD participants, ensuring advertising income targets are met.
- Oversee the workflow of the purchasing of advertising.
- Collaborate with the Marketing department and Producer to devise and execute sales strategies, contribute content for Festival marketing campaigns, and offer marketing resources to participants.
- Work alongside the Marketing department and Producer to achieve the festival's sales targets.
Systems, Reporting & Administration
- Work alongside the Ticketing department to develop and update the Artist and Venue Registration System, ensuring a smooth registration system for participants.
- Manage the timeline and task delegation of all programming department duties.
- Manage the programming department's expenses and ensure the budget is adhered to.
- Supervise the coordination of temporary visas for FRINGE WORLD Participants.
- Collaborate with the Ticketing and IT & Systems departments to oversee the development of essential systems for the programming department. This includes exploring innovative advancements to streamline processes and improve the participant experience.
- Oversee the systems, processes, timeline and delegation of the Artist and Venue Settlements.
- Support the Head of Programming & Ticketing in collating and analysing ticketing data to help support strategic planning.
Team & Development
- Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and training processes for the Programming team members. Supervise and support the FRINGE WORLD Program Coordinators ensuring their professional development and providing ongoing guidance.
- Create and uphold departmental procedures and training materials to ensure the sharing of institutional knowledge among team members.
- Develop training materials to help staff support participants and resolve escalated complaints as necessary.
- Oversee the post-Festival debrief process for the Programming department.
- Foster the development of positive and communicative working relationships.

- Undertake any other duties assigned by the ARTRAGE Executive Team, which might reasonably be deemed to be within the scope of the role and having regard for the skills and qualifications relating to the role.
The role is based in the ARTRAGE HQ Office 616 Hay Street, Perth, WA with time spent on Festival sites and other locations in and around Perth as required.
Experience- Strong knowledge of the local, national and international arts sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in arts programming, preferably in a festival or cultural event setting.
- Experience as a Manager or Team Leader.
- Excellent organisational, administrative and project management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, including being able to efficiently timeline department workload and delegate tasks.
- An understanding of a range of marketing platforms and strategies.
- Strong copywriting skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Creative thinking and the ability to generate innovative ideas.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with staff, artists, venues, participants and other stakeholders.
- Competency with Microsoft Office suite including intermediate skills in Excel.
- Proficiency in software tools including the ability to learn new systems.
