SalarySWConsult is a leading Building Defects Consultancy Business specializing in providing Forensic Remedial Building reports, repair specifications, project management or superintendency to Strata Title owners and investors of high rise buildings in need of remedial repair/waterproofing/concrete cancer removal, renovation and remediation etc.
The area of Building Defects (Forensic and Diagnostic) Engineering Constancy in Buildings is expanding as more high rise structures are built in SE Qld. Both older and new buildings can often be found to show signs of needing remediation.
SWConsult has been established since 2003 in Brisbane and SE Qld area and has consulted on an extensive list of high rise residential, commercial and resort properties providing specialist consultancy trouble shooting difficult problems with structures suffering from a range of issues such as concrete cancer, leaks, cracks, subsidence, window replacement, balustrade replacement and structural issues such as replacing columns, termite damage, rising damp and façade refurbishment etc.
Due to increasing demands for our services we require an engineer/project manager with knowledge of construction details of common building elements (façade systems, windows, doors, metal deck roofs etc) to help run the business working together in our team of 8 other consultants.
It is important that applicant for this role has CPEng ot RPEQ status.
Preference will be given to a candidate with previous construction/building remediation industry experience and a strong work ethic.
A strong interest in solving building issues as detailed previously is essential.
This role is permanent and working hours are generally from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
The day to day duties of this role include the following:
Managing communications from current and potential clients and contractors via email, phone and text,
- Site inspections
- Preparing photograph markups
- Problem solving and critical thinking to diagnose defects,
- Preparing reports
- Preparing specifications for repair
- Acting as Superintendent on multiple projects simultaneously, including
- Substantiating work quantities
- Assessing progress claims
- Assessing extensions of time,
- Assessing variations,
- Attending stakeholder meetings to discuss the project and resolve disputes,
- Preparing accurate meeting minutes,
- Administering contracts (AS4000, AS4905, AS4949)
- writing Design Technical Specification
- Preparing isolated remedial engineering designs and back checking existing design e.g. underpinning design, column design, beam design, slab design, retaining wall design,
- Preparing engineering details and sketches using powerpoint, word, autosketch or autocad
- Discussing problems with clients and preparing proposals to appropriately address the clients problems,
- Regular communication and project updates with the company Director,
- Managing client and contractor relationships
- mentoring Junior staff
- checking fee proposals and invoices align
- developing strategic management tools for future business growth

The engineering is challenging and will suit someone who enjoys trouble shooting and learning from our vast pool of experience. SWConsult is not a “New Build” Consultancy though occasionally we provide consultancy on new build structures such as waterproofing advice.
