Trainees in the GEGAC Academy will participate in a structured work and training program. The training program will include work skills, personal development, career planning, transition to study and cultural components. The trainees will also be supported to engage in further training or study in line with their career choice.

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based on Gunaikurnai Country in Bairnsdale, Victoria. Consisting of about 160 staff, GEGAC is a Not for Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC is a child safe agency and has a zero tolerance of abuse or neglect of children and young people.
Position Purpose
To significantly engage with community.
Planning activities for youth and community. Working in partnership with GEGAC departments to ensure community are accessing services in addition, provide direct support to those Community members accessing such Support services in reaching their goals.
Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal culture with the ability to liaise with and support the local community.
- Demonstrated capability to meet the key responsibilities of this position.
- A passion for the wellbeing of the Aboriginal community.
- A willingness to learn new skills and share existing ones.
- Ability to work alone and within a team.
- Have good communication and listening skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of ‘Strict Confidentiality’ and adherence to such.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
- A person of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander background ESSENTIAL
- Valid Driver’s License, or working towards a driver’s licence ESSENTIAL
- A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with mandatory vaccination directive applying to authorised workers ESSENTIAL
