About the Role
The General Manager will collaborate closely with the Director to establish and execute the high-level strategic plan for the business.
Acting as the “Integrator”, the General Manager ensures that new business improvement initiatives are brought to life, whilst also ensuring that all business-as-usual functions are working in a manner that maximises commercial and cultural outcomes.
The Key Focus Areas of the role are:
1. Leadership and Vision
- Establish a long-term vision for the business in collaboration with the Director, ensuring an up-to-date strategic plan is always in place and adhered to
- Maintain 90 day plans and engage the team using weekly and monthly reviews
- Maintain close communication with the Director to ensure the business is always moving in the right direction
- Promote clarity for all staff in terms of the vision of the business
- Communicate and embed the values across all staff
- Ensure accountability across the entire team for upholding the values at all times
- Ensure ongoing role and goal clarity is provided to all team members
- Maintain a culture of accountability and engagement - attendance, contribution, weekly plans, holidays, leave taken
- Ensure all staff are onboarded as effectively as possible
- Ensure that all HR matters are addressed in a timely and efficient manner
- Monitor development opportunities for all staff to ensure that necessary professional development is undertaken to achieve performance requirements
- Establish and address ongoing people and culture priorities to maintain a high-performing team
- Establish a daily pattern of updates, recognition and team development via huddles
2. Financial Oversight
- Management, analysis and close oversight of profitability and costs
- Management and oversight of budgets
- Forecast future sales volumes and improve retail margins
- Conduct ongoing analysis of all financial data to identify problems and come up with appropriate solutions to save money/increase profitability
- Submit weekly sales and efficiency reports to the Director along with any relevant analyses and/or recommendations
- Sign off on payments (within a limit of credit), while also checking and keeping accounts in balance
- Maintain oversight and signoff on timesheets across the team
- Review weekly team rosters to maximise service and sales, while being in line with wages and salaries budgets and agreed wage to sales ratios
3. Growth + Partnerships
- Maintain excellent relationships with key suppliers and customers
- Ensure regular review of contracts/terms to ensure optimal pricing and margins
- Attend relevant industry events to increase brand awareness
- Stay up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies in the industry
- Ensure the Sales team are executing all necessary strategies to maximise selling opportunities online and instore
4. Operations + Quality
- Ensure quality remains high and that products remain top-tier
- Ensure all operational compliance requirements are met
- Establish and maintain quality, sustainable, replicable SOPs and work systems
- Oversee training of all staff to ensure consistency of execution and mitigate risk
- Lead WHS reporting and the development of a replicable safety program
- Address all WHS matters as efficiently and effectively as possible, ensuring measures are put in place to mitigate thew risk of repeat incidences
- Oversee all HR compliance requirements
- Ensure all asset maintenance is up-to-date
- Monitor asset requirements and submit business cases to the Director for further investment, outlining the anticipated return on investment
5. Continuous Improvement
- Act as the “Integrator” to the Director’s “Visionary”, in turning growth concepts into robust implementation plans
- Establish quarterly “big rocks (continuous improvement) priorities across the business and clearly communicate them across the team
- Contribute innovative thinking around delivery, growth and new product opportunities to challenge the market
About You
There are a number of key attributes, skills, and experience that will help you succeed in this role, including:
- Significant commercial and operational management experience
- Exceptional leadership, communication, interpersonal, and negotiation capabilities
- Experience within a landscape or retail environment
- Strong business acumen
- The ability to juggle multiple competing priorities on an ongoing basis
- Excellent relationship building and stakeholder management skills
- Driver's Licence
