Representing over 22,000 students across 3 campuses plus international reach (the student body bring an amazing 126 different languages to the table!), the role of General Manager for the Student Guild at UniSQ holds a key position in the advocacy, engagement and representation of a diverse student body.
The Role
The General Manager will take ownership of day-to-day operations including overseeing employees and Guild members while supporting them in achieving success within the Guild’s various programs and initiatives. Providing regular reports to the Board to ensure operational targets are met in enhancing the student experience is a vital part of this role.
Reporting to the Board of the Student Guild, this position will be responsible for:
- Engaging with key stakeholders and the board to create and then implement a strategic plan for the organisation
- Leading a team of member-focused individuals to provide exceptional service
- Providing an effective conduit between the Guild and the University, enhancing communication and desired outcomes for both parties
- Managing the various service streams of the Guild including student advocacy, welfare, student clubs and engagement as well as the gym facilities
- Consulting and communicating with employees across all levels at the University to develop positive working relationships
- Effectively managing funding to deliver high-impact services within the parameters of agreements
- Ensuring compliance with all governance regulations including attendance at board meetings, risk mitigation, reporting, development and implementation of operational and risk management plans
- Providing operational management of budgets and financial reporting, policies and procedures, project delivery, employee management and training.

- Demonstrated experience in influencing positive cultural shift
- Proven ability to run a member-based operation, ideally with an advocacy focus
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Experience in managing a diverse and geographically dispersed team of professionals
- Demonstrated experience in the operational management of financial budgets and reporting, business planning and performance; marketing and stakeholder relations; policy research and advice; and knowledge and information management all within a not-for-profit environment.
