Geologist - Operations (Underground)

Northern Star Resources has an exciting opportunity at our Jundee Operations searching for a Geologist - Operations (Underground). This role is offered FIFO ex Perth on a rotation of 8 days on 6 days off.

The Geologist - Operations reports to the Senior Geologist - Operations, and the primary role is to (i) collect primary geological information and (ii) perform the underground geological activities required to facilitate the safe, efficient and cost-effective extraction and growth of the mineral reserve within the mine area to meet or exceed Northern Star's performance requirements within the Geology Department.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Collect samples and mapping information from the development faces to allow evaluation of the ore bodies exposed within the underground excavations.
• Perform geological mapping of all operating development as instructed.
• Perform geological checks of all headings where there is some uncertainty of whether ore is present in the broken rock and clearly communicate the results to production personnel so that the broken rock can be treated appropriately as ore or waste.
• Consciously look for and identify opportunity structures underground.
• Interpret, mark up, and wall map these structures and get survey to pick them up.
• Communicate discoveries to the Senior Geologists and Resource Geologists for follow-up work.
• Interpret the data collected on a regular basis and communicate relevant information to the appropriate personnel (Senior Geologists, Planning Engineers, Surveyors, Mine Foremen).

Required skills and experience:

• Degree majoring in Geology from a recognised tertiary institution
• Minimum 1-2 years geological experience, preferably in gold and underground.
• Experience in the use of Geological Software such as Vulcan, Datamine & Leapfrog.
• Familiarity with QA/QC processes.
• Current "C" Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• A demonstrated ability to work within a team and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
• Awareness of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all geological and environmental tasks.
