The Role
The General Manager-Environment & Sustainability will be responsible for supporting the company in all facets of environmental compliance, environmental risk management and sustainability best practice.
The role includes working alongside the CEO and executive team to implement industry leading environmental best practices into the business. A key focus will be overseeing the rollout of an Environmental Management System and accreditation to ISO standards and ensuring that operations are compliant with a strong focus on stakeholder management with the EPA. The role will require establishing key roles and responsibilities for the environmental team and working on new projects that require regulatory approvals.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Lead, motivate, and support the Environment & Sustainability team while providing day to day guidance on project operations and associated tasks.
- Support the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training of new team members.
- Oversee the development and implementation of environmental and sustainability strategies.
- Foster and strengthen existing client relationships and establish new clients and key stakeholders.
- Engage with key stakeholders and manage regulatory approvals where required.
- Oversee management of existing license compliance.
- Conduct Environmental Risk assessments and provide reports on recovered materials.
- Liaise directly with the EPA on new licensing requirements and projects including License amendments, new licenses, Section 30A’s, beneficial re use applications, and RDD requests for projects.
- Ensure that the Integrated Management System (IMS for Quality, OHS and Environmental or ISO9001, ISO45001 and ISO14001 respectively) is fully implemented, maintained and continually improved.
In addition, you will possess:
- Degree in Environmental Engineering/Science or relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience working in the environmental field working to EPA regulations and requirements at a senior level.
- Demonstrated experience in a management position in the environmental field
- Experience with Victorian EPA legislation and approvals is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organising skills to coordinate project activities.
- Demonstrated budgetary and financial management.
