Birali Steiner School is a developing, innovative and vibrant Steiner School, in Beachmere just north of Brisbane on Moreton Bay. It presently operates with a Principal,  a Pedagogical Coordinator,  Class  Teachers, Teacher  Aides, an Individual Enrichment Team, Business Manager, Administration Team and Maintenance staff with approximately 150 students and growing. The school is accredited P-10 with the long-term vision for a K-12 school.

Birali is seeking a Grounds and Maintenance Assistant to work 5hrs per day, 3 days a week. This role will be fixed term part-time for 12 months with the possibility of permanent part-time thereafter. 

Under the direction of the Grounds and Maintenance Officer and Business Manager, this role includes an array of duties including, but not limited to:

• Performing horticultural duties in areas such as sports playing fields, garden maintenance and foliage control
• Performing a range of industrial cleaning tasks such as pressure washing, blower vac pathways, etc.
• Performing general labouring tasks
• Moving furniture and equipment
• Performing basic maintenance tasks
• Assisting with basic pest control including insects and rodents
• Assisting trades personnel with manual duties
• Supervision of students is required at times where an alert, respectful and attentive presence is required.

Essential:

• Experience with general plant management including pruning, pest control and weed control
• Basic maintenance skills including use of hand tools and basic power tools
• Physical fitness to perform the above mentioned tasks
• Current Blue Card or Exemption Card

Desirable:

• Current First Aid and CPR certificate

This role is a Level 1 or 2 Operational Services role under the Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award 2020 with a current pay rate of $25.80 or $27.98 per hour (Birali pays above award rates). Level and rate will be dependent on demonstrated experience and skills.
