In addition you will lead capital project development and delivery, and, as part of the Executive, develop and implement the strategic plans and required resourcing for a world-renowned heritage tourism attraction.

Located in the picturesque Dandenong Ranges, Puffing Billy Railway is Australia's premier preserved steam railway. Operating on the original mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook, this century-old train offers a range of fun-filled experiences for all visitors.

A major tourist attraction, Puffing Billy Railway continues to be a popular destination for visitors, thanks to the tireless efforts of more than 300 volunteers and a team of 140 dedicated staff. 

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this senior leadership position will play an integral role in providing the leadership and strategic direction for all Infrastructure services including Locomotive, Carriage and Wagons WorkshopsBuilding Services, Capital Construction, Environment, Museum, Signals and Telegraph, and Track Maintenance. 

This position is responsible for safe, timely, compliant and on-budget management of Puffing Billy Railway infrastructure assets. In addition, the delivery of the construction capital expenditure program via the application of statutory planning requirements, policies and procedures, stakeholder consultation and the management of staff, contractors, suppliers and volunteers. 

Some of the key requirements of this position are:

  • Manage a total asset lifecycle program to ensure availability to be utilised to deliver the Business Plan goals and operational targets. 
  • Provide mentoring, performance management and training of direct reports to build corporate knowledge of the business Assets and Systems 
  • Ensure complete regulatory and statutory compliance is maintained, and corrective actions are taken to resolve Non-Compliance Reports in a timely manner.
  • Enhance current, and introduce new, asset management systems as required to ensure total asset lifecycle policies and procedures are adequately documented, implemented and updated. 
  • Oversee applications to meet planning requirements, obtain permits and negotiate with responsible authorities.
  • Identify, prioritise and champion key projects via the capital expenditure program
  • Actively participate in corporate working groups such as, not limited to the Management Executive Group, PBR Operations and Safety Committee, strategy and business plan development and implementation, and special projects.

About You

qualified professional with project management qualifications, mechanical or structural engineering or extensive experience (10 years +) within the mechanical or building trades. Experience in the co-ordination of asset management, maintenance in a time critical environment, large scale capital projectsconstruction, rail industry infrastructure or multiple trades management would be highly regarded.

With demonstrated people and leadership skills, your enthusiasm and drive will be integral in providing the leadership and direction required to grow and enhance all infrastructure functions.  You will understand the importance of creating successful partnerships working closely with stakeholders both internally and externally.

Your unflappable and methodical approach will ensure any challenge that presents itself will be managed in a logical, consultative, thoughtful and decisive manner.
