We are seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to fill the role of Head of Projects Health, Safety, and Environment.
In this key leadership and advisory role, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental responsibility, and stakeholder engagement across our Projects division.
About the role
As our Head of Projects Health, Safety, and Environment, you will lead our high-performing teams of Health & Safety (H&S) and Environment & Heritage (E&H) professionals, aligning activities with the broader direction defined by our Safety Sustainability & Risk (SSR) function.
Your primary objectives include providing counsel on risk identification and management, advising the Projects function, and championing a culture that prioritises Safety and sustainability.
Key Accountabilities include:
Leadership
- Develop, lead, and oversee the Health & Safety (H&S) and Environment & Heritage (E&H) teams.
- Work collaboratively with your team to inspire, motivate, guide, support, coach, mentor, and manage professional development.
- Work with Safety Sustainability & Risk (SSR) to set and measure related KPIs.
- Drive compliance with Railway Safety National Law (RSNL), and State (Vic) and Commonwealth legislation relating to H&S and E&H.
- Embed a culture of continuous improvement regarding Health, Safety, & Environment practices.
Health and Safety
- Ensure compliance with ISO 45001 accredited OHS Management Systems.
- Develop and implement OHS regulations and support the development of processes, management guides, and best practice procedures related to Health and Safety matters.
- Oversee recording, reporting of OHS incidents, and assist with Emergency Response.
Environment and Heritage
- Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 accredited Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
- Provide counsel in the management of environmental risk and associated controls.
- Oversee the review, recording, and reporting of environmental incidents.
- Support engagement with regulators and community groups on heritage issues.
About you
Reporting to the Director - Project Readiness, you will be leading a team of around twenty Health & Safety and Environment & Heritage professionals.
It is essential that you have 10+ years professional experience working with complex stakeholders, preferably in project delivery.
Ideally, your professional experience comes from working in rail, or other large infrastructure projects, in a safety regulated field.
Tertiary qualifications in Safety Management, OHSM, Risk Management, Environmental Management, or a related discipline are highly desirable, especially at post-graduate level.
