Walgett Community College is located 290 kilometres north-west of Dubbo, near the junctions of the Barwon and Namoi Rivers.
The High School has a Year 7-12 enrolment of 90 students, including approximately 96% Aboriginal students. The High School Campus offers two trade training centres that deliver courses in hospitality, metal and engineering, and construction.
Walgett Community College offers a range of programs that support students to learn about their identity and culture, improve wellbeing and build expectations for success. The school is part of the Connected Communities Strategy. Connected Communities is a strategy to drive improved educational outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people. The strategy positions schools as community hubs that broaden the influence of the community and school leadership in the delivery of key services that support children and young people from birth through school into further training, study and employment. The Head Teacher Teaching and Learning has a key responsibility to work the the Head Teacher Mentor and Head Teacher Secondary Studies to build staff capacity in instructional practice, planning, assessment and reporting.
The role requires high level teaching skills and knowledge of evidence based practice and an ability to develop and implement effective professional learning for staff.
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Capacity to lead the implementation and evaluation of Teaching and Learning programs, inclusive of evidence based pedagogical approaches, curriculum implementation and effective assessment and reporting.
- Demonstrated outstanding classroom teaching skills and capacity to model high impact classroom teaching strategies and lead colleagues to improve their Teaching and Learning to enable all students to achieve their full potential.
- Capacity to lead staff in improving educational outcomes for Aboriginal students in rural and remote communities.
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive Teaching and Learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support Teaching and Learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
