About the Role

Are you a safety conscious individual eager to make a meaningful contribution to workplace safety practices? If yes, then the Health and Safety (HS) Officer may be perfect role for you!

You will join a highly supportive and professional team, that will empower you to fulfil your career passions and goals. The HS Officer is an exciting role where you will be at the forefront in assisting with the delivery of Southern Rural Water’s (SRW) Health and Safety Plan. This role extends beyond just compliance, aiming to foster and champion a proactive culture of safety across the organisation that achieves meaningful workplace Health and Safety outcomes. As the HS Officer, you will work closely with various workgroups and employees, address Health and Safety queries, and facilitate the implementation of SRW’s Safety Management System

This is an excellent stepping stone opportunity, providing exposure to various aspects of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). In this role, your primary focus will be engaging with stakeholders to proactively identify and mitigate occupational hazards, and ensure that SRW consistently exceeds OHS legislative requirements and compliance standards.

As the HS Officer, some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the organisation to deliver the Health and Safety (HS) Plan, related initiatives, and H&S risk management plans.
  • Recommending control measures to eliminate or prevent incidents to Health and Safety risks, both physical and mental.
  • Building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver effective H&S services and outcomes.
  • Developing and reviewing health & safety related procedures, work instructions, and job safety analysis to ensure SRW’s Safety Management System remains robust and fit for purpose.

About you

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience, skills and qualifications related to the following:

  • Formal qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (Open to candidates willing to obtain this qualification as part of their employment contract).
  • Knowledge of OHS Safety Management Systems (desired).
  • Knowledge of Return-to-Work principles and procedures.
  • Ability to build effective and trustworthy working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A team-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to supporting and caring for colleagues.
