What you'll be doing
A temporary full-time position exists for a Health Promotion Officer – Smoking & Vaping Prevention Team, within the ISLHD Health Promotion Service.
This role involves working with members of the Smoking and Vaping Prevention Team to develop, implement and evaluate a range of programs to prevent the uptake of, and support people to stop smoking and vaping. This includes:
- Working in partnership with other stakeholders to meet statewide Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to reduce Smoking in Pregnancy.
- Strengthening the implementation of the NSW Health Smoke-free Health Care Policy across ISLHD facilities, working with clinical staff to support patients to manage their nicotine dependence or stop smoking prior to, or while in hospital.
- Building the capacity of key school-based and youth services staff to address the emerging area of electronic cigarette use among young people.
- Working in partnership with community stakeholders to support people from priority populations to stop smoking.
This is a temporary full time position until 6 April 2025 with the possibility of an extension subject to funding
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (2 doses) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Selection Criteria * Relevant tertiary qualifications in Health Promotion, population/public health, education, community development, allied health discipline or other extensive work-related experience.
- Demonstrated experience applying Health Promotion principles and skills in planning, implementing and evaluating Health Promotion programs and initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience in community engagement and applying community development approaches to reduce health inequities.
- Experience working with priority populations, including Aboriginal communities, and the ability to work with and engage a range of community stakeholders.
- Demonstrated organisational skills including managing competing priorities, problem solving and an ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently, to deliver agreed outcomes.
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, decision making and negotiation skills.
- Ability to communicate confidently both individually and in group settings with a range of audiences.
- Current unrestricted NSW Class C driver’s licence.
