Health & Safety Superintendent

Greenbushes Lithium Operation

Residential Full Time Position

About the Role:

To support the ongoing expansion of our Greenbushes Lithium Operation, an opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Health and Safety Superintendent, reporting to our Occupational Health and Safety Manager. This position is of crucial importance to Talison and a great opportunity for skills, experience, and influence to be applied to support the delivery of our strategic priorities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership of health, hygiene and safety matters for the Greenbushes Operation. The successful candidate shall also work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, government agencies, and the local community in meeting our internal and external commitments across site.

This a residential role, based at our Greenbushes Lithium Operation, on a 5:2 roster. Company housing and a company vehicle are on offer, but you must be prepared to live and work within our beautiful Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the health, hygiene, safety and emergency response teams to foster a positive and productive work environment that delivers quality outcomes;
  • Coaching & supporting direct and indirect reports to actively identify areas for individual and team-based learning to deliver quality solutions for internal customers;
  • Developing and maintaining proactive and productive relationships with key stakeholders such as operations’ team leaders and government bodies along with industry and community groups;
  • Identifying and correcting conditions or behaviours that impact on employee health, safety or wellbeing; and
  • Preparation and monitoring of budgets including cost management.

About the Candidate:

The following qualification/s and competencies are considered desirable for this position:

  • Cert IV or Diploma in Health and Safety;
  • Cert III Mines Rescue and Emergency Response (desirable);
  • Cert IV Training and Assessment (desirable);
  • Cert III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport (desirable);
  • Cert IV in Leadership and Management (desirable);
  • Occupational First Aid Certification (or equivalent);
  • Accredited Drug and Alcohol Screening (desirable);
  • ISO 9001 / 45001 Internal Auditor Accreditation;
  • Conduct Health and Safety Investigations; and
  • Apply Risk Management Processes (or equivalent).

The incumbent should have skills and/or experience in:

  • Achieving and sustaining high levels of technical and professional skills or knowledge with current developments and trends in their areas of expertise;
  • Be adept at building working relationships by developing and using collaborative approaches to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals and objectives;
  • Demonstrated experience in gaining team and organisational commitment by using appropriate interpersonal styles and techniques to gain acceptance of ideas or plans;
  • Taking prompt action to accomplish business objectives beyond what is required;
  • Identifying and correcting conditions or behaviours that impact on employee health, safety or wellbeing;
  • Making internal and external customers and stakeholders and their needs a primary focus of one’s actions through developing and sustaining productive relationships; and
  • Adaptable to maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work tasks or the work environment and adjusting effectively to work within new or revised structures, processes or cultures.
