By supporting the academic endeavour across teaching, research, and the student life, you will have the opportunity to contribute to activities that have a lasting impact on our community.Join a community where excellence is at the core of our culture, contributions are valued and a range of are available, such as:26 weeks paid parental leave or 14 weeks paid primary caregiver leave17% superannuation contributions17.5% annual leave loadingAccess to flexible working arrangements including hybrid working options, flexible start/finish times, purchased leave, and a condensed fortnightHealth and wellness discounts – fitness passport access, free yearly flu vaccinations, discounted health insurance, and access to our Employee Assistance Program for staff and their immediate familyOn campus childcare optionsCheap parking (from just $5.75 a day)Salary packaging optionsAbout This OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced individual to manage the Health, Safety and Wellness of the Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology (ACWEB) and oversee the Research Facilities operated by the Centre.Key responsibilities will include:Health, Safety and Wellness (HSW) ManagementIn conjunction with the Deputy Director HSW, Faculty Senior Manager (Work Health and Safety) and Centre Manager, lead and implement innovative projects that create operational efficiencies and improve workplace health, safety and wellness culture across the centre.Advise and support relevant ACWEB stakeholders on responsibilities and best practices under the Workplace Health and Safety Act including the development of Workplace Health and Safety Management Plans.Develop and maintain effective engagement and communication systems for safety-related issues within ACWEB and with other organisational units within UQ.Act as the executive officer of the ACWEB HSW committee, chaired by the Deputy Director HSW.Report on HSW to the monthly centre team meetings and the management meetings.Coordinate and conduct workplace audits to identify hazards and unsafe workplace conditions and work practices and ensure corrective action plans are implemented and completed.Manage and monitor electrical safety across the Centre, including the coordination and tracking of test and tag activities in collaboration with the EAIT Facilities Coordinator, with particular responsibility for sensitive or high-risk electrical items.Oversee and coordinate the updating of the Chemical Manifest.Advise on risk assessment requirements (including content and administration) for laboratories and Research projects in accordance with current UQ policy and/or legislative requirements.Be responsible for the identification and suggestion of appropriate WHS training and vaccinations across the centre and monitor and encourage compliance with mandatory training requirements.Review the circumstances of work injury, illness and dangerous events, identify any corrective action and request any additional resources or assistance required.Research Facilities ManagementProvide advice and help team members regarding set-up, operation and maintenance in all ACWEB Research Facilities in conjunction with the lab coordinators and PC2 lab manager, where appropriate.Identify and provide advice to the ACWEB Senior management, through the Centre Manager, on the efficient use, state of facilities and resources required.Project manage any refurbishment or improvements and supervise and coordinate the work of contractors.Provide leadership to the lab coordinators including chairing a monthly Lab Coordinators meeting.Build an effective relationship with the EAIT facilities team and the relevant site managers of Research Facilities, including offsite facility stakeholders.Ensure that building notifications and coordination of disruption are communicated in a timely manner to the ACWEB teams.This is a full-time time (100%), fixed-term position for 12 months.At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $96,649.64 - $105,244.58, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $113,080.08 - $123,136.16 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.About YouEssentialBEng or BSci level degree with at least 4 years subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise in technical or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.Demonstrated knowledge of experimental set-up and design for water research or related field.Demonstrated evidence of supervision in Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness.An ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote academic discipline at a university and wider community level, including industry, government and professional bodies.An ability to understand and implement the UQ and ACWEB policies and procedures.DesirableGood understanding of environmental and water-related processes.Developed industry liaisons and professional contacts.Skills developed in the training and education of research professionals.In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply.
