Your Role and Responsibilities
The Health and Safety Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continual improvement of the workplace health and safety management system. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with all relevant WHS laws and regulations and in fostering a safety culture across all locations and levels of the organization. The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager will be responsible for reducing workplace risks and creating a safe working environment for all employees.
Regular travel to regional properties at least once a month is a critical requirement of this role.
Your Primary Responsibilities will Include
- Develop, implement, and monitor WHS policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Australian WHS regulations and standards.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
- Administer the business wide safety systems and inspection program, including corrective action monitoring and reporting.
- Coach property managers in their obligations and risk management requirements.
- Lead the WHS committee, facilitating meetings and coordinating safety training sessions.
- Oversee the investigation of incidents, injuries, and near-misses, ensuring thorough documentation and implementation of preventive measures.
- Manage and conduct training programs on safety practices, emergency procedures, and the use of safety equipment.
- Liaise with external health and safety consultants, auditors, and regulatory agencies as required.
- Provide regular reports to senior management on WHS performance and issues.
- Advise and assist management and staff on WHS best practices and solutions to workplace safety issues.
- Manage the WHS budget, ensuring adequate resources are allocated for safety equipment and training.
- Stay updated with changes in WHS legislation and implement necessary changes in organisational practices.
- Collaborate with the Chief People Officer and other business leaders to ensure the alignment of initiatives and programs with local strategies and plans.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
- Certified qualifications in Work Health and Safety (e.g., Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, Diploma of Work Health and Safety).
- Extensive experience (5+ years) in a WHS role, preferably within the Ag industry or similar.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing effective WHS management systems.
- Strong knowledge of Australian WHS regulations and requirements.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team.
