ABOUT THE ROLE

The Healthcare Governance and Policy Manager will be critical in providing leadership in the ongoing commitment and development of the AFL's strategy and in the advancement of healthcare policy and service provision across our game.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

Key Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate and support the provision of services by Doctors and other healthcare professionals engaged by the AFL, and the provision of leadership and support to this important cohort across various competitions
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory healthcare requirements (e.g. AHPRA registration)
  • Management of the AFL Healthcare budget
  • Liaise with AFL Clubs with respect to the provision of healthcare services to AFL and AFLW teams including to address issues may arise as to the engagement of suitable providers and Soft Cap budgeting issues
  • Collaborate with key external healthcare stakeholders, including the AFL Doctors Association, AFL Physiotherapists Association, AFL Dieticians Association, Match-day Emergency Physicians, etc.
  • Assist in developing and implementing initiatives to address the relative scarcity of medical resources at levels below AFL and AFLW
  • Assist the AFL Healthcare team in setting research priority areas and help coordinate external research proposals
  • Liaise with the AFL Healthcare Team with respect to undertaking and leveraging research in relation to injury prevention and management issues in Australian Football
  • Undertake consultation with key stakeholders (including the AFLPA, external experts and representatives from other codes) and work with the AFL's medical experts to formulate the content and coordinate the delivery of healthcare education across the industry
  • Co-ordinate cultural safety program for AFL and Club Healthcare providers and manage relationships with key stakeholders including AIDA.
  • Coordinating and providing substantive input (including drafting) on the review and updating of protocols, procedures, regulations and guidelines and other key documents that guide AFL's strategy to prevent/reduce injury (not including concussion and head trauma) and provision of healthcare services (e.g. Medical Manual)
  • Manage the knowledge translation and policy implementation of these key directives and other concussion initiatives, including exploring potential commercial/partnership opportunities and required regulatory processes
  • Support the operation of the implementation and operation of the revised IDP (further detail to be determined when policy finalised)

OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER

Core Competencies:

  • Senior healthcare practitioner (e.g. AHPRA registered and/or member of ESSA)
  • Demonstrated expertise in healthcare leadership across multidisciplinary teams and health governance in sports.
  • Working knowledge/familiarity with current issues and approaches to sports medicine
  • In-depth understanding of Australian Football and health and safety issues in the sport
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Strong (written and oral) communication and analytical skills
  • Experience in drafting policies, guidelines and submissions (or equivalent)
  • Experience in managing and implementing project based work
  • Demonstrated experience in policy knowledge translation and implementation across multiple stakeholders
