Due to continuing strong business and growth opportunities, we are currently seeking an experienced Heritage Advisor at Technical Director or Senior level, to join our dynamic and collaborative Planning, Approvals and Heritage group.

You will play a technical lead role in the team and use your specialist knowledge of Commonwealth and Victorian legislative and policy framework for heritage approvals. Our heritage team currently services the whole of Australia and as such the team values experience in multiple states. You’ll drive the strategic development and continued growth of our team’s capabilities, with a focus on building and maintaining strong client relationships and supporting the development of new business.

The role is preferably based in Melbourne, but we’re also open to other locations nationally.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

• Investigating and reporting on a wide range of heritage matters, including statutory approvals and consultation with Traditional Owners
• Managing heritage advice and approvals processes for a diverse range of projects in Victoria and nationally
• Working on projects across the property and buildings, transport, water, energy and resources, and environment market sectors
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, internal specialists and sub-consultants, Commonwealth and State Government Departments, Agencies and Local Councils.
• Supporting the continued development of our team’s technical skills through mentorship
• Identifying and developing business opportunities within the Cultural Heritage sector within Victoria and nationally.

What would you bring to the team?

• Between 5 and 20 years of experience across heritage approval processes under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, Heritage Act 2017 and the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006.
• Willingness to learn and / or experience with state and territory legislations and heritage approval processes
• A tertiary qualification in archaeology, cultural heritage management, conservation architecture or related field
• Meeting the requirements to be a Heritage Advisor under Section 189(1) of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and The Minister’s Guidelines on Appropriate Qualifications for Heritage Advisors strongly preferred
• Understanding of aligned planning and environmental legislation and approval pathways
• Ability to undertake technical reviews and provide quality assurance.
• Experienced in a consulting environment with a natural ability to build positive client relationships and identify and develop new business opportunities.
