H.I.P.P.Y Tutor - Casual Position with work undertaken for approximately 15 hours per week or 30 hours per fortnight.H.I.P.P.Y (Home Interaction Program for Parentsand Youngsters) is a free, two year before school, home‐based early childhood learning program that empowers Parents and carers to be their child's first teacher.
Families that live in a H.I.P.P.Y Area start the H.I.P.P.Y program at 3 years of age and finish before they commence school.
In the first year of H.I.P.P.Y, families learn skills to get their children ready for school. In the second year, parents learn more about supporting their children's learning and development at school and at home.
Families spend 10 to 15 minutes a day doing education activities with their children. Trained H.I.P.P.Y Tutors meets with families to practice H.I.P.P.Y Activities.
H.I.P.P.Y Tutors are employed by the H.I.P.P.Y Provider to provide peer support and deliver H.I.P.P.Y to families through practicing activities with them.
H.I.P.P.Y Tutors must:
- Be willing to work within the HIPPY program fixed term until November 2024.
- Identify with the local community and have a commitment to working in the community.
- Have communication skills that will support program delivery.
- Be comfortable visiting homes in the community.
- Meet with between 10 and 15 H.I.P.P.Y families on a weekly basis to role-play and deliver H.I.P.P.Y materials in the home or a gathering.
- Refer H.I.P.P.Y families to the H.I.P.P.Y Coordinator if they need additional support or assistance.
- Collect preselected activity sheets on a weekly basis, and samples of children’s work and to monitor families’ progress through the activity packs.
- Complete national and local H.I.P.P.Y forms and additional information requested by the Coordinator, accurately and promptly.
- Assist in the preparation, provision and clean-up of the parent gatherings as assigned by the Coordinator and participate in all regular H.I.P.P.Y activities (i.e. excursions, celebrations or events etc).
- Meet with the Coordinator on a weekly basis for the purpose of role‐playing the next week’s material, reporting on the progress of the HIPPY families assigned, and discussing any problems that arose during the previous week.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and training conducted by Community Gro Inc.
- Participate in training opportunities as deemed necessary by the Coordinator, for the purpose of personal and professional development.
- Assist in the Community Centre and with other duties and events as requested by the H.I.P.P.Y Coordinator or Centre Manager.
