Home Ground is a cafe at the Village Green Precinct on the UNSW campus. We’re looking for a Cafe Manager to help oversee the deliverance of food and beverage services to a high-quality standard. This role requires strong customer service and team leader qualities and offers the opportunity for a manager to put their personal stamp on this new venture.

About the Role
This is a hands-on role. The Manager will need to manage all aspects of Home Ground operations (including day-to-day operations, front of house, kitchen, rostering, and venue management).
Home Ground primarily operates weekdays 7am-5pm, offering consistent regular hours. However, this position may involve ad hoc evenings and weekend work based on bookings at the Village Green Precinct. Some flexibility will be required.

You will have excellent people skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. You’ll be able to think strategically, creatively and proactively in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in a similar role is essential.

KEY TASKS & ACCOUNTABILITIES
The main duties of this position include:
- Manage all aspects of Home Ground operations (including day-to-day operation, front of house, kitchen, rostering, and venue management);
- Negotiate and manage relationships with suppliers
- Oversee bookings and functions, ensuring the efficient and effective front and back of house services and act as first point of contact;
- Ensure the delivery of high service standards and products to create a loyal customer base
- Manage cafe finances, including income and expenditure, with monthly reporting and cost of goods alignment within pre-defined parameters;
- Manage stock-takes and ordering;
- Manage cash handling and banking;
- Manage staff rostering and associated costs;
- Review and assess the success of the venue's offering and recommend changes where required
- Manage the performance of all reporting staff and identify training and development
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
- Experience in a similar role or at least 2 years in a hospitality supervisory role;
- Strong understanding of the Food & Beverage operations including costs, stock control, and food safety;
- Proven experience leading, managing, motivating and rostering teams;
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills which use creative and imaginative approaches to find innovative solutions to challenges that arise;
- Understanding all menu recipe and dietary information (such as coeliac, gluten free, halal, dairy free, pescatarian and vegan & vegetarian)
- Complying with Arc WHS & Injury Management policy and procedures to actively participate in creating a safe working culture
- Actively engaging in fair and equitable workplace practices and behaviour to ensure discrimination free workplace in accordance with legislative requirements
- Maintaining an awareness of Arc's environmental policies and procedures minimising the impact of Arc's business on the environment;
Desirable Criteria
- A broad range of skills that you can apply and enhance the venue with e.g. You like to build stuff, you can grow green things, you are obsessive about the taste of coffee, you are a cocktail wiz, etc?
- An understanding of marketing and promotions
- Experience working in a youth focused (i.e. 18-25 age demographic) hospitality venue
- Food safety qualification
- RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol).
- First Aid Certificate
