About Us
Fitzroy Community Hospice (FCH) is a community-driven, not-for-profit charitable organisation established in direct response to the need for greater access to community-based palliative care in Central Queensland. Governed by a Board of Directors, FCH has grown in 3 years from an “idea” to a home-like 11-bed hospice facility; with a planned opening in early June 2024. As an alternative to hospital or home-based palliative care, FCH will provide the full spectrum of subacute palliative care, including short term symptom management, transitional care between hospital and home, and care in the last weeks and days of life. It is envisaged that an integrated model of care with Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service will improve patient and family experiences at the end of life.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans and leads the preparation of appetising and nutritious meals for patients in accordance with their specific needs and preferences, and catering on an as needed basis for families & carers, meetings, and onsite functions;
- Coordinates the housekeeping program at FCH, with assistance;
- Oversees catering and cleaning stock control at FCH, and undertakes the efficient purchase of food and relevant supplies and consumables;
- Coordinates with assistance, other staff and volunteers involved in the provision of hospitality services;
- Champions hygiene and food safety standards and delivers training for FCH staff and volunteers, as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Experience providing hospitality services in a healthcare setting;
- Experience coordinating volunteers is highly desirable;
- Advanced food safety, hygiene, and infection control skills and knowledge are desirable;
- Computer skills sufficient to plan menus and order supplies online.
Qualifications:
- Food Safety Supervisor Certificate or willing to complete;
- Current Queensland Drivers’ Licence.
Other Requirements (prior to employment):
- Satisfactory National Police Check;
- Evidence of immunity to Vaccine Preventable Diseases.
Pay and Conditions
Permanent part time 0.5 to 0.7 FTE
Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience
