About the role:
WorkPac are looking for an Health, Safety & Environment Advisor to provide dedicated support to the Operations at Yarwun. The role will also partner with contractors to support the safe delivery of services and projects. Key roles and responsibilities:

• Educate, communicate and engage with site leaders, operational personnel and Rio Tinto HSE groups
• Analyse data and ensuring compliance with the Rio Tinto Health and Safety standards and legislative requirements
• Support and participate in the investigations to prevent repeat incidents occurring
• Work across the health and safety function to support the standardisation and simplification of systems and processes
• Recommend key control methods (considering the hierarchy of control) for health and safety risk reduction and evaluate control effectiveness
• Participate in and facilitate risk register reviews
• Support the delivery of strategic safety initiatives
• Lead and support business wide health and safety improvement initiatives
• Conduct health and safety assurance and governance activities
• Work with contractor partners to support safe delivery of projects in alignment with the Rio Tinto Health and Safety Management System

Skills and experience required:

• Must have relevant health and safety qualification or demonstrated experience working in an operational health and safety role, coupled with a passion for, and sound knowledge of health and safety
• Strong engaging and influencing skills, with the ability to coach leaders and to think strategically across the business value chain
• An ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing competing priorities supporting multiple stakeholder groups
• Intermediate computer skills including experience using reporting tools and Microsoft Office Suite
• Adaptability, flexibility & a solutions based mind-set
• High level of integrity and values based decision making
• Strong communication and analytical skills
• Must be either an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or hold full Working Rights within Australia

Where you will be working:
Yarwun is located 15 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year. Employing around 700 people to support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance and shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialing new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and the use of drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto's innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC). Along with Boyne Smelters Limited and Queensland Alumina Limited, our Yarwun Operation supports the local community in a wide range of initiatives.
