Human Resources Generalist
Founded in 2001, Garlo's Pies is an all Australian owned and operated family business which bakes premium quality Pies and Pastry products servicing over 400+ food service customers, major supermarkets, airlines in Australia and to export markets overseas. An exciting opportunity now exists for a highly motivated HR Generalist to join our operation which is based at Kingsgrove.
The Role
Reporting into the General Manager, the HR Generalist will be a standalone position. You have the opportunity to develop and expand the HR function of the business. Some aspects of the role will involve:
- Management of recruitment, onboarding and offboarding process.
- Ensuring all new employees are properly onboarded and all exiting employees are offboarded.
- Coordinate key training activities of all staff (general policies and procedures, WHS and Food Safety).
- Manage company HRMS (Employment Hero).
- Oversee payroll function (timesheets, awards, leave requests, etc.)
- Oversee and manage employee enrichment activities (professional development, social club, Christmas parties, company wide meetings, etc.)
- Coordinate Garlo's cross-functional teams (WHS team, Safety Team, Quality Team, etc.).
This is a full-time permanent opportunity and the organisation will wait for the right person to fit the role and the company values.
The HR Generalist is a senior member within Garlo's organisational structure. This role will have a direct relationship with all members of the Senior Leadership Team whilst developing relationships with all staff within the business.
The role requires a seasoned operator who is skilled in the art of people management and team performance. The successful applicant will be as confident on the floor giving directions as they are behind the desk creating people-based procedures and initiatives.
At present the facility operates Monday-Friday, with public holidays off.
Experience
Minimum 3 plus years of Human Resources experience.
Requirements
- Australian Residency or eligibility to work unrestricted full time.
- High degree of emotional intelligence.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, especially with workers where English isn’t their first language.
- Has a proven track record in developing and coaching young and inexperienced workers to achieve success.
- Is results driven and holds high standards for themselves and those around them.
- Experience working in a food manufacturing facility desirable but not essential. Equivalent management experience in other fast paced manufacturing, warehousing, logistics or distribution businesses is also relevant.

- Good problem solving skills and creative thinking
- Ability to create work instructions and process directions and understands the benefit of continually refining processes which can be monitored and measured.

- Has strong collaboration skills, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. It is also essential that you are up to date with an understanding of industry awards, current pay rates and industry trends surrounding non-monetary benefits.
- Education is a key component for this role. A minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources or Business would be necessary, along with previous experience in the HR field.
