About the Role
The department is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced persons to become an independent member of its Audit and Risk Committee.
Reporting to the departmental Secretary, Audit and Risk Committee is responsible for monitoring financial reporting, financial performance and sustainability, risk management, the internal audit function, and compliance with the Financial Management Act 1994, laws, regulation, internal policies and industry standards (including compliance breach reporting). The Audit and Risk Committee also has an oversight responsibility for the department’s external audits and reviews the status of remedial action of audit issues.

Skills & Experience
To be considered for this important governance role, your application must clearly demonstrate how your skills, qualifications and experience align with the following criteria:
- Experience as a member of a board or a committee, ideally in government
- Strong understanding of the education sector
- Relevant qualifications and extensive demonstrated experience in senior finance leadership roles
- Proven track record of financial acumen and a deep understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and financial reporting
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic insights into financial matters, ensuring consistency with organisational objectives and Risk management strategies
- Strong understanding of best practice internal controls, risk management and corporate governance and a demonstrated ability to be strategic and solutions focussed
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance standards, enabling effective oversight to finance related regulatory requirements.
Meeting Frequency: Six meetings per year, with the potential for special meetings to be convened as required.
Term Commencement: 1 August 2024
Initial Contract Term Duration: Three years
Meetings are held at our Melbourne offices during normal business hours, and it is expected that successful recruited members will generally attend meetings in person.
