Job description

VCID 895618

There are exciting roles available in the Strategy, Policy and Planning Directorate (SPP), with opportunities to be a part of a team working on large, system-wide health reform programs, addressing key priorities focused on delivering patient-centred, high quality and financially sustainable healthcare across the State.

This is a recruitment pool for permanent and fixed term, full time and part time opportunities with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency as they become available over the life of the pool. There is one permanent vacancy and several fixed term vacancies available for immediate filling. An example JDF is attached for your reference.

Position Profile:

The SPP Directorate is looking for talented and enthusiastic Principal Project and Principal Policy Officers. The pool may be used to fill roles in the Sustainable Health Implementation Support Unit, System Policy, Planning and Risk Unit or Strategic Social Health Policy Unit.

Principal Project and Policy Officers within SPP manage initiatives, projects, programs and relationships that contribute to the improvement of the WA health system.

This recruitment process is to establish a pool of suitable candidates for Principal Project and Policy Officer vacancies across SPP over the next 12 months – specifically, driven individuals who are interested in contributing to WA health system strategic and reform priorities that drive transformational change across the WA health sector.

Principal Project and Policy Officers take a leading role in the development, coordination, management and delivery of policy, projects, programs and relationships that contribute to the improvement of child safeguarding across the WA health system. Current bodies of work include supporting implementation of the Sustainable Health Review reform program, strategic health planning, system-wide risk, and child safeguarding initiatives – all driving improvements for effective and efficient functioning of the WA health system and ultimately achieving better health outcomes for Western Australians.

Sustainable Health Implementation Support Unit (SHISU)

SHISU supports implementation of the 30 Recommendations of the Sustainable Health Review (SHR) Final Report. The SHR is focused on delivery of patient-centred, high quality and financially sustainable healthcare, and seeks to drive a cultural shift to focus on prevention, equity and care closer to home, supported by a modern healthcare system.

SHISU supports implementation of the SHR, with Principal Project and Principal Policy Officers working as part of a team to support governance, reporting, resourcing, assurance and evaluation, and transformational change approaches. SHISU is also focused on embedding in SHR delivery improved Aboriginal and mental health; health of people from culturally and linguistically diverse and low socioeconomic status communities; reforms for older people, those with disabilities and children and young people; and improved service delivery in rural and remote communities.

SHISU also supports several health reform and partnership initiatives, and reports on the delivery of WA Health Election Commitments.

SHISU is looking for talented Principal Project and Principal Policy Officers who have experience in project or program management, are interested in working on large scale reform priorities for government and within the WA public sector context, who are excited and enthusiastic about working flexibly to progress innovative approaches to support the WA health system and are willing to engage in a range of partnership approaches to best support improved health outcomes for our community.

Strategic Social Health Policy (SSHP) program

The SSHP encompasses the work required to strengthen and embed a system-wide approach to child safeguarding across WA Health and provides program readiness and strategic social policy reform direction to enable system-wide change for vulnerable children, young people, carers and families. The Program seeks to deliver the following outcomes:

  • Robust  governance, systems, policies and procedures to minimise the risk of harm for children in WA Health settings;
  • A safe, responsive and trauma-informed service for all people affected by child abuse across the State;
  • All WA Health staff equipped with skills and knowledge to recognise, respond and report child abuse;
  • All children, adolescents and young people feel safe and empowered when accessing a WA Health service; and
  • Parents and carers are confident that children are safe when receiving care in a WA Health service.

The SSHP works to achieve these outcomes through implementation and embedding of National Principles across the health system; establishment and management of interagency collaboration mechanisms; design, delivery and evaluation of safe and appropriate services, including the Health Navigator Pilot Program.

Note: The Child Safeguarding Program encompasses bodies of work required to implement key recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. Officers appointed from this pool to vacancies in this Child Safeguarding team of SPP will be exposed to sensitive information.

System Policy Planning and Risk

The System Policy, Planning and Risk (SPPR) team is responsible for leading and coordinating systemwide planning and risk for the WA Health system. SPPR are leading the development of; the systemwide State Health Plan and building a systemwide risk and assurance function for WA Health.

Successful applicants may be appointed to roles across SPP. Appointments may be made to suitable vacancies from this pool until 31 May 2025.

WA Health is committed to eliminating all forms of discrimination in the provision of our service. We embrace diversity and strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally diverse backgrounds and people with disabilities.

WA Health supports flexible working practices, and are excited to add to our dynamic team.
