Parental Leave Cover - Indigenous Health Project Officer
We are looking for a suitable candidate to fill the role of Indigenous Health Project Officer on a full time 6-month fixed term contract to cover a period of parental leave, with ongoing opportunities available.

We operate out of the Greater Bunbury area, Mandurah, and have numerous clinics throughout the South West.
About the opportunity
The role of the Indigenous Health Project Officer (IHPO) at SWAMS involves providing leadership and guidance to Aboriginal health workers/practitioners and the Indigenous outreach worker team. The IHPO ensures the ongoing provision of high standards of care to SWAMS clients. Responsibilities include delivering clinical services, health education (with a focus on primary health care), and coordinating the Aboriginal health worker/practitioner and Indigenous outreach worker team. The goal is to improve health outcomes for the Aboriginal community in the South West region. Duties of the role include:
- Supervise daily duties of the Aboriginal health team, including outreach, triage, and client load management.
- Collaborate with clinical team members for effective primary health service delivery.
- Conduct health checks on clients.
- Provide culturally sensitive assistance to health staff.
- Collaborate with SWAMS staff to implement education and health promotion for clients and the community.
- Provide health education to clients and families.
Essential Criteria
- Current registration as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner with AHPRA
- Completion of Certificate IV Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice.
- Demonstrated team leadership and management experience
- Demonstrated clinical competence in a broad primary health context
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people.
- A demonstrated understanding of the unique issues effecting and impacting upon the health of Aboriginal people.
- Knowledge and experience in the provision of health promotion programs.
- Preparedness to continue training towards increasing competencies.
- Knowledge of community and local Aboriginal cultural issues.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience and interest in Community or Aboriginal Health
- Knowledge and expertise in the use of Communicare or similar clinical database system.
- Current venepuncture competence
