About This Opportunity
The Indigenous Researcher Development Coordinator is responsible for promoting the development and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) at UQ. They will oversee a development program that is culturally appropriate and inclusive to provide support and enrichment. This role also supports HDR candidate the retention and success of UQ’s cohort of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander HDR candidates, specifically providing advice and development for HDR Advisors. They will also lead initiatives to encourage pathways for Indigenous students in to HDR study and also support career pathways post HDR.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop strategies to support the development and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander HDR candidates and ECRs, including leading a program that supports inclusion and professional development
Contribute to HDR Advisor development and develop strategies to increase participation rates of research staff in advisory roles who provide culturally appropriate advice that incorporates the key principles of cultural safety and acknowledges Indigenous HDR candidates as respected knowledge holders
Act as an advisor on matters relating to academic integrity for Indigenous HDR candidates, in accordance with the University’s Student Integrity and Misconduct Policy and Guidelines and the requirements of the University’s Student Grievance Resolution Policy and Procedures
Develop initiatives, with other key stakeholders, to support pathways for Indigenous students into HDR study
Develop initiatives, with other key stakeholders, that support career pathways for Indigenous HDRs and ECRs
Liaise and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to provide support and culturally appropriate advice on HDR candidates matters where required
Represent the ATSIS Unit on the UQ HDR Committee

This is a Part-time (60%), fixed-term position for up to 5 years. At HEW Level C/D Academic Position. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $128,109.64 - $147,717.97 (Level C) or $154,254.09 - $169,941.34 (Level D), plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $149,888.28 - $172,830.02 (Level C) or $180,477.29 - $198,831.37 (Level D) annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You

The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
Essential
PhD in a research field relevant to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit, with a proven experience in Indigenous methodologies and knowledges
Proven track record in the successful supervision of postgraduate students
Excellent inter-personal, communication (verbal and written) and negotiation skills with the ability to establish effect relationships and to represent and promote academic discipline at a university and wider community level, including within the community, industry, government and professional bodies
Ability to advise on culturally appropriate contexts in the capacity building of HDRs and ECRs
Excellent organisational abilities with a proven track record of maintaining confidentiality
Evidence of a contribution to research, including successful external grant applications
Commitment to upholding the University’s values, and with the outstanding personal qualities of openness, respectfulness and integrity
Experience in liaising and collaborating with external agencies to develop co-operative research initiatives
