About the role
Nominally reporting to one of the Directors in the Development team, Investment Analysts will contribute to the analysis and investigation of the investment pipeline of Breakthrough Victoria. They will support the development of early-stage breakthrough ideas by leading internal due diligence on investment opportunities through the construction on financial models, ecosystem and competitor scanning and leading the development of internal briefing documents for Management Investment Committee and the Board Investment Committee.
A key focus will be to work both autonomously, across teams/groups and closely with internal stakeholders to analyse proposals, prepare advice and reporting, and communicate progress of the analysis to reporting managers in the Investment groups of the company.
Experience working in the investment industry, financial modeling, conducting due diligence and preparing advice and reporting will be crucial accountabilities for the roles. Our ideal candidate will be collaborative, driven and possess well developed analytical and problem solving skills.
Key Accountabilities
Understanding of investment, venture capital, private equity or the financing and delivery of projects
Experience in investment, business development, and account management, including the ability to analyse complex agreements, contracts or investment proposals
Analyse investment proposals, prepare reports for senior stakeholders on the viability and validity of the proposals
Conduct due diligence on the pipeline of proposals and identify potential areas of conflict, error, legalities and/or opportunity
Utilise strong investment analysis and financial background to generate reporting and advice on the potential progression of investment proposals
Provide timely and authoritative advice to senior executives and the Board on the progress of investments, including risks which may impact investments and potential mitigants
Key Selection Criteria:
The Investment Analyst will be expected to possess the following key skills and experience:
Investment Management Experience: Strong experience in investment, business development, and account management, including the ability to negotiate complex agreements, contracts or investments.
Innovation and Start-ups: Understanding of the commercialisation challenges confronting start-ups, industry innovation and innovators, as well as the best-practice programs and initiatives being used globally and/or nationally to assist them.
Capital: Knowledge of the early-stage funding challenges for translational research and emerging technologies, from angel investing through to pre-seed investment.
Communication: Outstanding influencing, communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills;
Team Work: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, written and verbal and an ability to work as part of a motivated and driven team
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in commerce, economics, business or like discipline.
