What you'll be doingThis position is based at the Joint Referral Unit - the State-wide unit which triages all serious child abuse reports for NSW.
The JRU is staffed by NSW Health, the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) and NSW Police who all contribute to making decisions on the need for a Joint Child Protection Response Program (JCPRP) response and/or planning of other local responses for serious child abuse reports referred by the NSW Child Protection Helpline.
The Health Clinician supports the operation of the Joint Referral Unit (JRU) through sourcing, requesting and sharing key health information required to inform JRU decisions and through liaison and provision of information to facilitate the provision of local health services to children and young people.
The position requires active participation in collaborative interagency planning, as well as completion of projects related to the policies and procedures governing the Joint Child Protection Response Program, when required by NSW Health or the JRU agency partners.
  • Specialist clinical skills and experience relating to the assessment and identification of the health needs of children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NSW Health specialist Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) services including their management, roles and responsibilities, types of service delivery and related child protection policies.
  • Demonstrated advanced reasoning skills, as well as advanced written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, manage a diverse range of tasks, work under pressure and work within an interagency context.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in undertaking consultation and/or projects with a variety of stakeholders with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as social work, psychology, social sciences, counselling or other qualification deemed relevant to this position.
