The Role:
We’re a rapidly growing construction and engineering business seeking a Junior Engineer with a passion for Research and Development (R&D) and a specific focus on Design for Manufacturing (DFM), to join our team based in Sydney.
As a key contributor, you will play a vital role in the successful design and delivery of cutting-edge electrified vehicle products for the construction, mining, government, and consumer markets.
Key responsibilities :
- Design plant and equipment across areas from prototype development to manufacturing.
- Coordinate prototype builds, testing regimes, and manage product development life cycles.
- Contribute to the development of controller programming while considering safety, performance and compliance requirements.
- Work closely with project managers to optimise resource allocation, ensuring efficient project execution and successful outcomes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop systems from concept to implementation.
- Apply advanced engineering analysis to develop suitable designs and product interfaces with existing designs.
- Validate product designs to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
- Develop and maintain a reliable relationship with suppliers and fabricators to adhere to timelines and achieve the required build quality.
Essential:
- A passion for the automotive industry
- A background “tinkering” with cars and machinery either as a hobby or in previous employment along with a willingness to work in a “hands-on” capacity building prototype.
- Up to 5 years’ relevant experience, with a focus on product development/life cycle in the heavy vehicle or automotive industries.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering or a related field with eligibility for Engineers Australia Membership.
- Experience collaborating with a diverse group of individuals to meet a deadline.
- Knowledge of Australian automotive compliance standards and legislation.
- Experience in using CAD software and FEA simulations.
Desirable:
- Good understanding of electric drivetrain design for mobile plant.
- Familiarity with controller programming and automotive electrical system design.
- Experience with circuit analysis and PCB design.
- Proficiency in using Solidworks.
- Experience on a university Formula SAE team, or similar.
