Taronga Zoo Sydney, Cammeraigal Country, is currently recruiting for 2 x Keepers (Targeted Indigenous), looking for an opportunity to join our Backyard to Bush team or Australian Fauna team, on a 2 year contracted position.
As a part of the Australian Fauna and Backyard to Bush teams you will be part of a skilled and experienced team of Keepers who care for one of the most diverse range of species at Taronga. You will have the opportunity to deliver some exciting and engaging experiences that immerse guests & students in our conservation projects & education programs.
This role requires the candidate to demonstrate a high level of initiative, good time management and the ability to maintain exhibits to a high standard, for animal husbandry and welfare.
Supporting Taronga's Commitment to Country, these two positions are targeted to providing opportunities for Indigenous employment with the goal of attracting and employing Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and developing new ways to engage and retain our people.
Key Accountabilities…- Deliver high quality customer services experiences in order to provide excellent guest experiences and promote positive behaviour change and repeat visitation.
- Work without direct supervision to safely provide high quality animal and behavioural husbandry in line with Taronga policies and procedures to assist Taronga in meeting WHS, animal care and welfare targets and in complying with all relevant legislation.
- Comply with Taronga's Animal Welfare Charter to ensure industry leading standards of animal welfare are maintained and that you are promoting positive animal welfare for all animals in our care.
- Communicate Taronga's education and conservation messages both internally and externally, ensuring all communications align with Taronga's values to inspire behavioural change in accordance with Taronga's vision and strategic pillars.
- Work effectively as a member of a high performing team including peers, volunteers and students to assist Taronga in its achievement of strategic outcomes.
We are looking for candidates that have:
- This is a Targeted Role - Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Applicants who have 2 years + experience working in a similar setting will be considered for this role.
- NSW C Class Drivers License
- TB Screening
- Pre-Employment Q Fever
