Brief Summary of role:
The Youth Outreach & Transport Officer is responsible for ensuring the delivery of the Kalano Youth Outreach & Transport Service in line with the agreed hours of operation and the key responsibilities listed below. The Youth Outreach & Transport Officer is responsible for the interaction with youth found to be unaccompanied in the Central Business District and Katherine surrounding areas and to assist each client by way of referral to third party stakeholders and or transport.
The role is focused on the below objectives:
• Demonstrated understanding of the social and emotional wellbeing issues and barriers affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
• Experience working with Indigenous Youth and the willingness to undertake further training and development
• An understanding of case management or willing to learn
• Work collaboratively with other youth service providers and inter-agency forums
• Divert young people away from anti-social behavior and entry into the criminal justice system
• Liaise with Police and emergency services
• Patrol known hotspots with high youth activity
• Referring individuals to other relevant service providers.
• Prepared to complete training relevant to outreach objectives as required
• Ability to work within set timeframes and in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to cooperate and work together with staff, management, service providers and promote the organisation in a positive manner.
Salary and Conditions:
Employment Type: Casual
Salary Range: $33.1835 per hour (Plus Casual loading & other applicable allowances)
Hours of Work: Shift worker
Location: Kalano’s Transport Services Office – Katherine, NT.
The successful applicant should have;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clients, staff and stakeholders
• Sound knowledge of the Katherine local area and ability to navigate the streets safely and effectively
• Current NT drivers licence, Valid Ochre Card and willingness to undertake a National Police check.
