Laboratory Analyst - LA-ICPMS

- Full time, ongoing role, based in Hobart
- Be responsible for one of our analytical laboratories, including the operation of one LA-ICPMS unit consisting of a quadrupole ICPMS and an excimer laser microprobe.
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs of both instruments in the laboratory.
- Develop and maintain awareness of the capacity, capability, and operation of all other LA-ICPMS facilities in CODES Analytical Laboratories.
- Provide expert advice to internal users on the application of the instrumentation to geological problems and on data processing.
- Train staff and research students on the operation of the equipment when required.
- Perform LA-ICPMS analyses for and report results to external users of the Laboratories.
- An Honours degree or higher qualification in the fields of geology or geochemistry, with extensive experience in the geochemical analysis of rocks and/or minerals.
- Demonstrated experience in independently operating and maintaining LA-ICPMS analytical equipment.
- Demonstrated experience in, or capability to participate in, LA-ICPMS analytical method developments.
- Demonstrated experience with data reduction procedures for LA-ICPMS analytical data.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
- Demonstrated well-developed organisational and written skills.
- Experience with WH&S issues involved in an analytical laboratory environment, including safe operation of equipment, training and induction processes, promotion of a safety-first culture and continuous improvement with regards to WH&S.
- Laboratory and workshop activities; handling hazardous substances.
- Undertaking manual handling and lifting
