Classification: School officer Level 3—Level 4 ($30.79 - $35.37 per hour), depending on qualifications and experience.

About the Position
Brisbane Montessori School (BMS) invites applications for an experienced chemistry Laboratory Assistant to assist the Middle School science teachers in the preparation and maintenance of the school laboratory and delivery of chemistry lessons during Term 3, 2024. The successful applicant will commence on DATE (Term 3), 2024, in a part-time, short-term contract: 4 hours, 1 day per week, either Thursday or Friday, depending on the applicant.
Duties
- Working with the Middle School science teacher to manage the risk assessment process for classroom and laboratory science experiments and substance handling (including MSDS and similar documentation)
- Organising the Science Laboratory, including the selection, sourcing and management of scientific equipment, resources and substances
- Providing classroom assistance and guidance with practical demonstrations and experiments which includes the process of designing of trial experiments prior to classroom implementation
- Assisting the science teacher to motivate, develop, guide and mentor pupils in a peaceful environment using Montessori philosophy
- Assisting with scientific principles, complex scientific techniques, equipment use (including calibration) and hazardous substance handling in collaboration with teaching staff.
To be successful, you will have
- Certificate III or above in Laboratory Skills
- Sound knowledge of a high school chemistry laboratory operations
- Experience in working with both teachers and students within a school environment and/or understanding the nuances of school
- Strong organisational skills
- A current Childcare First Aid & CPR certificate or willingness to obtain prior with BMS in July.
- A current Blue Card or undertake employment screening for child-related employment and maintain a positive Blue Card or willingness to obtain prior to starting.
- An understanding of the school’s vision, objectives and workplace values (previous experience in schools will be valued).
