About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, results oriented Laboratory Manager to join our mine sites laboratories leadership team. The role is Perth-based, with FIFO to client site in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for the overall operation of the client-based laboratory, managing their teams to ensure compliance with both Intertek and Client laboratory operating procedures, policies and standards, and to meet critical client deliverables.
Duties
The primary responsibilities of the role include:
- Managing the overall laboratory operation and ensuring safe, efficient and quality operations and service.
- Liaising with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure contractual and production requirements are met.
- Be responsible for onsite OHS & E, creating and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace environment. Ensure safety procedures are followed at all times, in accordance with Site, State and local guidelines.
- Responsibility for the management of staff, including hiring, onboarding, coaching and evaluating team members to enhance operational performance and compliance
- Managing site QAQC system and ensuring validity and reliability of results.
- Driving continuous improvement of systems, instrumentation and laboratory workflow.
- Managing both external and internal reporting and ensuring clear communication with all stakeholders
- Ensure all staff are adequately trained and provide technical support as required, utilising and championing training programs available for employees.
- Maintain laboratory hygiene and general housekeeping as required.
- Control inventory management process for all laboratory equipment and supplies
- Responsible for managing maintenance
- Managing and monitoring of laboratory costs.
- Building and maintaining a positive workplace culture as a foundation for embedding high employee engagement.
Skills and Qualifications
To be successful, candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Cert IV in laboratory practices or higher qualification. Tertiary qualification in Science and relevant discipline is preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety and working knowledge of OHS policies and practices
- Extensive knowledge of relevant laboratory procedures and standards.
- Previous experience working in a remote site or performing a continuous roster.
- Statutory Supervisor qualification
- Experience successfully managing teams, leading through change and managing conflict
- Comprehensive technical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong verbal and written and communication skills.
- Strong analytical ability with sound mechanical aptitude.
- Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills (Excel)
- Manual driver’s license.
