Job description

Newmont Australian operations are located in Western Australia and the Northern Territory with roles in operations, projects and exploration. Regional Support is provided from our offices based in Subiaco - close to public transport and with onsite parking facilities. The world's leading gold company, we pride ourselves on our dedication to safety, environmental management, inclusion and diversity, and adding value and opportunity to our host communities. With operations on four continents, we are honoured to be named the mining industry leader by the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the past five years and the only one listed in the S&P 500 index.

The Role:

Newmont is currently seeking an experienced Land Manager to lead the Australian land administration team. The Land Administration team is responsible for the planning, management and administration of all mining tenure, land and access arrangements to ensure security of title and access in the Australian region. The Land Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the maintenance, administration and compliance of mining tenements and other land holdings.

The Land Manager works closely with key stakeholders, including landholders, legal, environment and exploration teams to align work to Newmont's strategy, policies and standards and reports directly to the Head of Legal, Australia.

This is a full time permanent position based in our Perth Hub, which offers a hybrid working arrangement.

The key role responsibilities:

  • Manage, develop and organise the Land Administration Team.
  • Undertake and oversee tenement management (encompassing statutory and contractual obligations) by supervising the timely tracking and actioning of all critical dates to ensure tenure is maintained.
  • Ensure systems and procedures are in place and properly maintained for the efficient and sound administration of land and tenement obligations. Including the preparation and maintenance of accurate records, documentation and reports related to the Australian region's land and tenement holdings.
  • Prepare and submit reports to internal and external stakeholders in accordance with Newmont Standards and Procedures. Support corporate reporting and compliance activities and processes.
  • Support and assist other Newmont functions in the acquisition of new assets through undertaking tenement acquisition and disposition related activities which may include activities such as undertaking land related due diligence, tenement applications, providing advice relevant to acquisitions and attending to tenement and land acquisition and disposition completion matters including the registration of land and tenements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise guidance and support to Land Administration personnel and other cross functional teams including Exploration, Environment, Projects and Operational teams.
  • Engage and maintain positive relationships with government agencies, landholders, indigenous communities, and other external stakeholders. Address any concerns or disputes related to tenement and land management.
  • Negotiate or support the negotiation of land access arrangements, or other land related agreements with third parties including governmental entities and First Nations parties.
  • Identify potential risks and develop risk mitigation strategies related to tenement management.
  • Maintain a current awareness of developments in the Australian mining industry, competitor activity, and legislation and policies related to management of mining tenements and land access matters.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for the Land Administration Team covering tenement and land maintenance, and compliance. Monitor expenditure, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure efficient resource allocation.

The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Your Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive relevant experience in tenement management within the Australian mining industry.
  • Thorough knowledge and proficiency in mineral title compliance, land access processes and procedures in accordance with relevant acts and regulations relevant to mining, Native Title, Aboriginal cultural heritage and land administration throughout the Australian region.
  • Strong understanding of mining exploration and development processes.
  • An ability to deal confidently with complex issues and to manage conflicting priorities working within extremely short deadlines.
  • Effective communication and negotiations skills to engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in personnel management including performance management and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency with customised land tenure databases (e.g. LandFolio) and other relevant business systems.
  • An ability to work collaboratively and lead a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • High level understanding of GIS data files and ArcGIS Pro software.
  • A commitment to safety, sustainability, and ethical practices.

We understand no candidate will meet every single desired qualification. If your experience looks a little different from what we've identified and you think you can bring value to the role, we'd love to learn more about you!
